Travelling into the city

bmi will take you to Heydar Aliyev International Airport, which is 15 miles from the centre of the city. A taxi will cost you 12 AZN (around £10) or, catch the N16 bus, costing just 1 AZN (80p) but it will be a much longer journey.

Exploring the city

Climb the symbolic Maiden Tower, said to date from the 12th century, for wonderful views of the city. The Palace of the Shirvanshahs, the medieval palace of the Shirvan Shahs should definitely be on your to-do list.

Eating out

Dine in style at the authentic Karvansaray Restaurant. The romantic atmosphere is heightened by the live musicians performing as you enjoy a delicious meal. The Caravan Jazz club has a wonderfully relaxed ambience and is a great place to indulge in the soothing sounds of traditional Baku music.
